A jacuzzi tub to shower conversion removes a whirlpool or jetted tub and builds a shower in its place. It is popular with homeowners in Saint Augustine, FL whose jetted tub is rarely used, hard to clean, or past its prime.
What the Project Involves
Jetted tubs have parts that a standard tub does not, including a pump, jets, extra plumbing lines, and an electrical connection. Before the tub is removed, power to its circuit is shut off and disconnected, and this electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician. The tub, its motor access panel, and the surround are then taken out.
The old circuit is safely capped or removed, the drain and supply lines are set for the shower, and the area is waterproofed. A base, walls, door, and fixtures follow. Jetted tubs are often large and set in a deck, so flooring and framing repairs are common once the tub is out.
When This Option Makes Sense
- The jets or pump no longer work, or repairs cost more than they are worth.
- You want a shower you use daily in place of a tub you do not.
- The bathroom needs a safer entry or easier cleaning.
- You want the large footprint to hold a bigger, more comfortable shower.
What Affects the Price
Costs depend on electrical disconnection, tub removal, flooring repairs, drain and plumbing changes, and the shower materials you choose. Large tubs can take more labor to remove. Pricing for a jacuzzi tub to shower conversion depends on the project and a written quote, and it helps to ask whether the quote covers disposal of the old tub and any electrical work. Electrical and plumbing permits and inspections vary by Saint Augustine, FL, so confirm requirements before work begins.
